Man Up!

jeans 2

Tasteful jewelry, small, delicate and understated, all things that make me break out into a rash… boooorrring. Come on, if you’re going to wear jewelry, really wear it! Make a statement! Commit to it, try something new and don’t be afraid, it’s only jewelry.

Jewelry is a fun and easy way to change your look or to bring new life to an old favorite in your closet. It says a lot about who you are and what your personal style esthetic is. Now, you don’t want your earrings to say, “I’m super organized, collect cat mugs and head up the local chapter of coupon clippers anonymous, or your necklace to give off a, I host Tupperware parties, drive a station wagon and wear sparkly holiday sweaters vibe,  or maybe you do. In which case, you probably wouldn’t be reading my blog.

Spring is almost here, only eight days away! So, why not try something new that screams, “spring, here I am, check my ass out!” Lately my favorite way to do that has been by wearing multiple big chunky rings, but a pair of statement earrings or an attention grabbing necklace work just as well!

So, go all out and show off the goods, the warmer weather and skimpier clothing is the perfect combo to do just that.

Keep It Simple Boys

Jewelry, chocolate, perfume, yoga mat…YOGA MAT??? That’s right, one year I received a yoga mat for Valentines Day. That same boyfriend later gave me a pillow, salad chopping kitchen shears (yeh, think it was an “as seen on tv” thing), a computer and a heart rate monitor for other holidays. I know, you’re probably wondering why I stuck around after the yoga mat, I guess I was hopeful.

His reasoning behind all of these super romantic, oh- so- sentimental gifts was that since I was a Gemologist and worked in the jewelry business he couldn’t possibly buy me any jewelry! WHAT??? That’s insane!!! Yeh, why would you give the girl who’s crazy about jewelry, spends all day around it, eat, sleeps and dreams about it, any jewelry???

Just keep it simple boys. Don’t over think the gift giving, and don’t try to be too original. Stick to the classics, and jewelry is a classic for a reason, WE ALL LOVE IT!!!! The big jewelry companies have already done the work for you, now you just have to fork over some cash.

Diamonds studs are always a great choice, but incase you aren’t sure if she has her ears pierced, you can never go wrong with a pendant or necklace. Bracelets and rings can get tricky too if you aren’t sure about the size she wears. But,feel confident knowing that as long as it’s sparkly and comes in a velvet box you can’t screw up too bad!

Happy shopping, Valentines Day is only two weeks away!

To match or not to match?

indian hands

As I was getting ready to meet a friend today I had a fashion dilemma. Do I color coordinate my jewelry with my tattoos or not? I love an armful of jewels, a giant stack of bangles, fingers full of rings. However, as I continue work on my sleeve (which will eventually be a pastel, colorful confection of desserts and candy), I wonder what”s a tattooed jewelry girl to do?

Do I only wear pastel pieces that match my tattoos, blue topaz, morganite, aquamarine or  do I rock out a black spinel bracelet, sapphire ring and emerald bangle? Is matchy, matchy the way to go? Now, I don’t want to clash. I know you’re probably asking yourself how a girl with a cupcake tattoo on her arm can be worried about clashing with anything, but I definitely think this is something I have to consider.

Now, back to the sapphire ring, that brings up a whole different issue. Hand and finger tattoos. I love them! I think they look great, especially on guys. But, I don’t have any and probably wouldn’t get them done because I’m such a ring girl. LOVE, love, love my rings, the bigger the better!! If I could figure out a way to strap a crystal ashtray on my finger I totally would.

Anyway, I wonder how many other tattooed Jewelry Freaks got dressed today and wondered what jewelry works best with their art, or does it really matter?
